The AbilityNet Tech4Good Awards shortlist SeeChange and Spill Detect in the AI for Good category. 

AbilityNet created the Tech4Good awards in 2011 to recognise and celebrate organisations and individuals who use digital technology to improve the lives of others and make the world a better place. 

The AI for Good Category looks for projects utilising Artificial Intelligence (AI) to make the world a better place.

Slips, trips, and falls are a leading worldwide common cause of injury, yet over 70% of accidents are completely avoidable[1]. These accidents and injuries cost the UK national Health Service over £133 million annually, and can have a life changing impact on people, affecting them physically, mentally, and financially. When slip, trips and fall accidents take place in retail environments, they also have a significant financial and reputational impact on retailers.

Data shows that over half of claims made against retailers are for slips and falls[2], demonstrating that despite health and safety policies, risk assessments and clean-up plans, hazards are not always spotted in time and can lead to injuries.

Our spill detection solution uses computer vision to interpret and understand environments, detecting liquid spills in real-time and alerting staff immediately so that the hazard can be cleaned up before accidents occur. The solution offers an opportunity to tackle a high impact problem which advancements in health and safety processes have previously not been able to overcome.
